Open Door on Luke
Synopsis
In celebration of 900 years of church life and half way through
the decade of Evangelism, Bishop Peter has decided to take Luke
as his traveling companion around the Norwich Diocese. This provides
us with an opportunity to get to know Luke's gospel better.
Extract (Aim of Luke's Gospel)
Luke is totally open with Theophilus: a Greek outsider, but a friend
of God. (Theophilus means God friend). His gospel is for those who
love God but not institutionalised religion which is confined to
a ghetto by fear. Luke opens his gospel in a cultured way. He is
aiming at an intelligent public with enquiring minds. Others have
entered the field, but Luke feels he says something by telling the
story in such a way so that those on the fringe will be drawn in.
